California couple’s hidden treasure goes for sale

SAN FRANCISCO: A treasure trove of rare gold coins found by a The state of california couple out walking their dog is set to go on sale.

One of the coins – an 1874 $20 double eagle – is planned to be auctioned at the Old San Francisco Bay Area Mint on at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Don Kagin, whose company is handling the sale, says almost all of the remaining 1,400 coins will go available for sale on Amazon.com and Kagins.com later in the evening.

The coins date from 1847 to 1894 and have been valued at $11 million.

The happy couple, whom Kagin rejected to recognize, found them a year ago buried under the shade of a tree on their rural Northern California property.

Kagin says we have witnessed numerous theories in regards to the coins’ origins, but none have panned out.
