NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court of India has sentenced Bollywood Film industry star Sanjay Dutt for 5 years in jail in the 1993 Mumbai Blasts case and quizzed him to surrender within 4 weeks:
The actor has already spent 1 . 5 years in jail and he will now have to serve 3 and half years more in jail.
Dutt was convicted in Nov 2006 for illegally having an AK-56 rifle and a 9mm pistol. But under anti-terror TADA, which is now defunct, the actor was acquitted of more serious charges of criminal conspiracy.
After a 10-month hearing starting November 1, 2011, the apex court had in August 2012 booked its verdict on appeals and cross-appeals in the 1993 Mumbai serial terror bombing case in which 257 citizens were killed and 713 were injured.
Terrorists carried out a series of blasts in Mumbai on March 12, 1993, also damaging property worth over Rs 27 crore (Indian).
